DadLife: Fire

Where the conversation starts.

Most fatherhood advice starts with what to do: discipline strategies, communication scripts, tips for busy dads.

DadLife starts with who you are as a father, right now, in this season of your life.

DadLife: Fire is a short, structured reflection on how you’re actually showing up as a dad. It isn’t a parenting course and it isn’t a personality test. It’s a starting point: something honest to put on the table so the conversation that follows is about you, not dads in general.

The profile doesn’t change anything on its own. The conversation does.

Why start here?

Fathers are expected to do more than ever and are prepared for surprisingly little of it. We call that the Fatherhood Preparation Gap. It isn’t a failure of fathers. It’s a gap in the mentorship and support available to them.

Closing that gap doesn’t start with more technique. It starts with knowing where you stand: the strengths already carrying you, the areas running thinner right now, and where focused attention would make the biggest difference.

Fire gives you that picture. What you do with it happens in conversation, with other dads and a facilitator who knows how to use it.

What Fire is and isn’t

It’s built from your own answers, not a template every dad gets.

It’s not clinical. It doesn’t diagnose you, label you, or reduce you to a type, and it doesn’t replace mental health care.

It’s not meant to be read alone and filed away. Every Fire profile is designed to be talked through, whether that conversation lasts 90 minutes, six weeks, or longer.

And it’s honest. No father comes back strong across the board, and none should expect to. Most men are a real mix: some parts of their fathering burning strong, some barely catching.

That mix isn’t a problem to fix. It’s where the conversation begins.

The DadLife: Fire Model

Fire uses a simple, familiar image: a fire and everything it needs to burn.

Eleven dimensions of fathering — how you show up, how you connect, how you hold structure, what you're carrying from your own upbringing, and more — group into five parts of that fire:

  • The Tinder — who you are as a father, before any technique

  • The Hearth — the adult partnership your child grows up inside

  • The Fuel — what you actually have to give, and what's left in your tank

  • The Air — the outward work of stretching your child toward the world while holding real limits

  • The Blaze — the part everyone can see: the daily, visible work of showing up

Within each part, every area lands in one of four bands — not a grade, but a temperature:

Ember. Real heat, not yet doing much. This is where your clearest growth edge sits — the place to build a skill from the ground up.

Spark. Something's catching, inconsistently. Often the fastest place to see change, from small, deliberate practice.

Flame. Already working, on its own. Worth understanding well enough to apply elsewhere.

Fire. A genuine strength — worth protecting, and worth extending outward. To your kids. To your co-parent. To the other fathers around you.

Together, that gives you a shape, not a score.

Specific to you, and built to change as your fathering does.

Where Fire fits

DadLife: The Start is a 90-minute guided conversation with 8 to 10 dads. You complete your Fire profile beforehand, so the conversation is shaped by the dads actually in your group. You leave with a clearer picture of your own fathering and a few concrete places to put your attention.

Built for your group. Before every Start and Work session, we look at the group’s combined Fire results and design the session around them. The conversation stays relevant and focused, and no one sits through material that doesn’t apply to them.

DadLife: The Work is six weeks with a small cohort of fathers. Your profile gives the group a starting point, and a private 1:1 debrief helps you make sense of it for your own life. From there, the work is in the weekly conversations, the practice between sessions, and the other dads who won’t let you off the hook.

DadLife: One to One is individual sessions where your Fire profile is reviewed and interpreted with you directly, and the conversation goes wherever your life needs it to.

What you actually walk away with

A clear, honest picture of your fathering, informed by research on what shapes how children experience being fathered, delivered without jargon or diagnosis.

Then the part that matters more: a conversation about what that picture means for you, your kids, and the father you want to be.

This isn't about becoming a different father.

It's about becoming a clearer one.
